Overview

Tara Newman is counsel for Fasken's Financial Services Practice Group.

As the former Chief Risk Officer and head of strategy, resolution transactions and legal services at Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) over many years, she advises clients on a wide range of financial services issues.

With over 20 years of private and public sector legal experience, Tara has broad knowledge in a variety of areas. She served as Canada's representative on the Financial Stability Board's Legal Experts Group tasked with addressing cross-border issues in bank resolution. She was responsible for supporting CDIC's resolution preparedness, legislative initiatives and strategic planning, and led its innovative Crisis Simulation Centre. Prior to joining CDIC, Tara practiced corporate law in Ottawa. With her background, Tara brings critical advice, guidance and strategic recommendations on financial regulatory matters, transactions and payment technologies.
