Johann Gest practises in intellectual property, with a focus on patents. Working with clients ranging from start-ups to multinationals, Johann helps them protect their innovations through patents and industrial designs. In addition to drafting and prosecuting patent applications, Johann prepares opinions on patentability, validity, freedom to operate and infringement.
With an academic background in mathematics, engineering, physics and electrical engineering, Johann’s experience includes electronics, optics/opto-electronics, telecommunications, software, and green technology.
During his studies, Johann participated in the development of all-fibre components, as well as optical fibre lasers and amplifiers. His doctoral thesis focused on transients in Raman amplifiers. While completing his doctoral studies, Johann assisted in designing a photonic blood glucose meter that didn’t require disposable strips, and which was the subject matter of a patent application.
