Our aviation group’s core competencies include the following:
- Commercial and transactional legal advice and services including mergers and acquisitions, leasing and sale of commercial and private aircraft, aircraft financing (including domestic and international security registration), infrastructure and real estate, intellectual property, aviation related agreements of all types, and tax.
- Aviation related regulatory advice of all types including the specific application of the Cape Town Convention in Canada, the effect of sanctions on aviation law matters, airport, aircraft, operator, and manufacturing related matters under the Canadian Aviation Regulations (including certification and permitting), ownership and operation of drones/ remotely piloted aircraft, airline ownership and operation under the Canadian Transportation Agency, and regulatory matters involving Transport Canada (including advisory guidance and opinions).
- Operational related advice to airports, airlines, aircraft owners and operators, repair stations, manufacturers, flying schools, and pilots including business operations, charters, leasing, licensing (including slot allocation), cargo, ground handling and services, commercial agreements, LEHR, risk management, and insurance.
- Litigation and arbitration relating to aviation including product liability, tort liability, class actions, and commercial disputes. Our litigators regularly act for aircraft, engine, and component manufacturers and their insurers in product liability and air incident claims of all types. We also appear before tribunals and courts in a wide variety of contentious regulatory matters.
