Symposium 2021 - Getting Consent in the New Era of UNDRIP Legislation

Both BC and Canada have now passed legislation providing a framework to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

In this session, we explore:

• What government commitments have been made via this legislation?
• How have community expectations changed as a result of this legislation, particularly with respect to “Free, Prior and Informed Consent”?
• What is the impact of this legislation on negotiating Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs)? Has the content or timing of IBAs changed as a result?
