As the dust settles from the pandemic, real estate has been a benefactor of the low interest rate environment. However, the pandemic has had varying impacts on different asset classes. Retail and office leases are being negotiated to allow for greater flexibility as there is still uncertainty as to whether “we’re out of the woods”. In contrast, industrial real estate continues to see an uptick in demand due to a supply shortage. Along with market changes, regulatory updates to the real estate sector are at the forefront of real estate in British Columbia in the post-pandemic world.
Discussed in this session:
- An update on the reporting requirements under the Land Owner Transparency Act, with the looming deadline to file transparency reports approaching on November 30, 2021.
- Leasing considerations for the post-pandemic world which includes discussion regarding lease clauses that are now top of mind for landlords and tenants.
- Real property market update for Metro Vancouver, discussing trends and other key legal considerations from the perspective of real estate stakeholders.
